CMP – Match Clinic

Please come down and join us on Saturday August 8, 2020 from 9:00 AM – Noon (weather permitting) for our monthly CMP Match Clinic.

These match clinics allow people the opportunity to shoot M1 Garand or AR-15 rifles in a structured but fun setting. M1 Garand or AR-15 rifles can be provided.  If you have your own favorite centerfire rifle please bring it.  This is especially encouraged in light of COVID-19.  All matches are iron sights only.

The event is conducted in a match format (5 rounds for practice, 10 rounds prone, 10 rounds sitting or kneeling, and 10 rounds standing), but the competition is secondary to the experience of firing these two iconic military firearms.

We will be practicing social distancing and disinfecting club provided rifles between shooters in order to ensure the health and safety of all.

The cost for each match is $20 for ammunition (.30-06 or .223) and there is no cost if you bring your own ammunition. Minors must have a parent or guardian present.

Come down and shoot a piece of history!

Trap Clinic

Have you heard people taking about Trap Shooting at the club and wondered what all the fuss is? Does the idea of the instant gratification from watching clays smash into pieces make you smile? Why not come out and give it a try?

On Saturday July 11 from 11AM-1:30PM, we will be conducting our a beginner trap clinic, limited to 10 students. The focus of this clinic will be to introduce the challenging game of trap to newcomers. This clinic is designed for the brand-new trap shooter and will cover the basics including the rules of the game, foot placement, hold points and the techniques necessary to break targets.

No experience is necessary, and we will have shotguns and ammunition available for use. Included in the $25 fee will be use of shotguns, ammunition, classroom instruction and 2 rounds of trap along side an experienced trap shooter acting as a coach.

Eye and ear protection can be provided, but if you have your own, you are encouraged to bring it. For more information or to sign up, please contact: firearmsafety@tewksburyrodandgun.org.

Range Availability

In the recent member survey, eleven percent of respondents wanted increased range availability. In response to this feedback, the Hi-Bore Range Officers have increased their coverage during the week. Please watch the club calendar for additional coverage for most Monday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings as well as all day coverage on Saturdays.

For those that would like to request a range officer’s time outside of our published times, we have created a new web page for you: http://tewksburyrodandgun.org/ro

This page can be used for either Hi-Bore or the Trap Field.

We would ask that you provide at least 3 days notice with your request, and please keep in mind requests are not guaranteed. You must get confirmation from the range chairman for your requested time.

Of course you can always call an RO from the list on the newsletter as well.

The Board of Directors will be monitoring range logs and the new request page to assess if additional actions are required to ensure our members have ample access to the range.

The BOD thanks you for taking the survey and we want you to know your feedback is appreciated and will be acted upon.

Ranges Open

Attn Members:

On May 18th, the reopening plan for Massachusetts was announced, permitting shooting ranges to open effective immediately. Therefore, members may once again use the Club’s indoor and outdoor ranges.  Range Officer schedules are being set as we speak and both ranges will be open on Saturday, May 23rd.  Please check the calendar for more information: http://tewksburyrodandgun.org/wp/club-calendar/

The indoor range is open effective immediately, please note in order to ensure social distancing every other lane should be utilized.

Range-specific COVID-19 rules are posted at these ranges and must be observed.  We do ask for everyone’s patience when utilizing the ranges.  As we all get adjusted to the new normal, we must all be extra patient and respectful of the ROs, each other, and the Club.

All COVID-19 safety guidelines must be observed:

  • Stay more than 6′ away from others whenever possible
  • Masks must be worn when social distancing is not possible
  • Wash or sanitize your hands often
  • If you aren’t feeling well, stay home and contact your doctor
At this time we will also be resuming the Basic Firearms Safety class, with social distancing guidelines.  The clubhouse will remain closed at this time.  Please watch the website/newsletter for more information.

The BOD is very excited to reopen the club and we appreciate everyone’s patience during these very unique times.

Thank you,

TRG BOD

Basic Firearm Safety Class

The Tewksbury Rod & Gun Club will be resuming the Massachusetts Basic Firearm Safety Classes as of June 6th.  Classes will be limited in size and will be by invitation only, as there is quite a long waiting list already established.  Please be on the look out for an invitation and respond by the deadline date, or you will risk losing your spot in class.   For more information see the Basic Firearm Safety Class page: http://tewksburyrodandgun.org/wp/programs/basic-firearm-safety-course/

Archery Chairperson Wanted

The Board of Directors is currently seeking to fill our vacant archery chairperson position.  In years past, the club has had a vibrant archery program with youth programs and hosting competitions. The club still has approximately 6 new archery butts, a raised platform, approximately 10 good 3D targets including 6 deer, a bear, 2 boars and a turkey.  There are approximately 200 arrows as well as about 25 bows in both adult and youth sizes.  These are both compound and recurve bows.  There are also an array of paper targets and learning materials left over from past programs and competitions.
All we need is someone to be willing to take the reins!  Our archery field is one of our most underutilized club resources and it would be great to see archery thrive again at the club.  If you are interested in helping your club with revitalizing this untapped potential please contact Jeff Blute (president@tewksburyrodandgun.org) or Rich Sorrentino (vicepresident@tewksburyrodandgun.org).
