Youth Shooters Open House

Looking for something a little different for your kids to try?
 
Tell all your friends, neighbors, and family that, The Tewksbury Rod & Gun Club is hosting a Youth Shooters Open House on Saturday, September 26 from 10:00 AM–12:30 PM.
 
Shooting sports are a great alternative to traditional youth sports. Boys and girls compete on equal footing, and kids can enjoy the challenge and competitive side of the sport without having to be the biggest, fastest, or best athlete to participate.
 
It’s a sport where focus, patience, safety, and personal improvement really matter.
 
Come check out our Smokin’ Clays shotgun program and Junior .22 Rifle Program. No experience is necessary—this is a chance to meet our coaches, learn about the programs, and see whether shooting sports might be a good fit for your son or daughter.

NRA Range Safety Officer Course

September 9, 2026

At this time The Tewksbury Rod & Gun Club is not offering RSO trainings.  However, if you want to become an RSO, you can get your NRA Range Safety Officer certification anywhere such a class is offered.  One notable class that is being held by GOAL will be on October 17-18, 2026 at the Franklin County Sportsmens Club in Deerfield, MA. This course helps prepare individuals to organize, conduct and supervise safe shooting activities and range operations. Members of GOAL affiliated clubs may be entitled to free tuition. Course fee is $125 for GOAL members and $160 for non-members. Reach out to Jon Green via jon@goal.org for the application and schedule or check out this Facebook post for more information.

Basic Firearms Safety Course

The Tewksbury Rod & Gun Club will hold a NRA/MA certified Basic Firearms Safety course on September 19, 2026 rescheduled to September 26. If you are interested in taking the course, please contact us at firearmsafety@tewksburyrodandgun.org.

In order to obtain a License to Carry (LTC) a Firearm in the state of Massachusetts, you are required to attend a basic firearms training course. This course is accepted by the state and a certificate will be issued to you as proof of completion.

Instructors will provide hands on learning in the following areas:

  • safe firearm handling
  • firearm parts and operation
  • ammunition and its function
  • shooting fundamentals
  • how to select, clean and store a firearm
  • live fire practical in the club’s indoor range

Schedule: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Please arrive 15 minutes early to sign in.

Maximum Enrollment: 10 (note: your check will not be deposited until the date of the class and will be returned to you if you cannot attend)

The cost of the course, which includes training materials and the use of club provided firearms, is $125. If you are club member, the fee is reduced to $85. Coffee & donuts, along with a hot dog lunch will be provided.

Enrollment will only be confirmed upon receipt of payment. CMP – Match Clinic

August 26, 2026

Please come down and join us on Saturday September 5, 2026 from 9:00 AM – Noon (weather permitting) for our CMP Match Clinic.

These match clinics allow people the opportunity to shoot M1 Garand or AR-15 rifles in a structured but fun setting. M1 Garand or AR-15 rifles can be provided.  If you have your own favorite centerfire rifle please bring it.

The event is conducted in a match format (5 rounds for practice, 10 rounds prone, 10 rounds sitting or kneeling, and 10 rounds standing), but the competition is secondary to the experience of firing these two iconic military firearms.

The cost for each match is $20 for ammunition (.30-06 or .223) and there is no cost if you bring your own ammunition. Minors must have a parent or guardian present.

Come down and shoot a piece of history!

Honoring the Legacy of Mike Hebert

The Tewksbury Rod & Gun Club is proud to announce the installation of a new sign dedicated to the memory of our dear friend and fellow member, Mike Hebert.

The sign, titled “Michael P. Hebert Memorial Fields,” now stands overlooking our High Bore Range and Trap Field — a fitting tribute to a man whose passion, dedication, and countless hours of volunteer service helped shape these facilities and the people who use them.

Mike’s impact on our club cannot be measured by titles alone, although he held many. He served as a Basic Firearms Instructor, NRA Range Safety Officer Instructor, Shotgun Instructor, Rifle Instructor, Chief Range Officer, mentor, coach, and trusted friend. Whether he was teaching a new shooter, mentoring a fellow instructor, improving our ranges, or volunteering behind the scenes, Mike always led by example. His commitment to safety, education, and excellence made our club a better place.

The memorial sign also proudly features the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) logo and the Smokin’ Clays logo. These were intentionally included to recognize Mike’s unwavering dedication to youth shooting sports. He believed that introducing young people to safe, responsible firearms handling and competitive shooting was one of the greatest investments we could make in the future of our sport. His influence can still be seen in the many young shooters whose lives he helped shape.

Mike was more than an instructor or volunteer—he was a friend to so many of us. He freely shared his knowledge, his time, and his infectious enthusiasm. His willingness to help anyone, regardless of experience, earned him the respect and admiration of everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Mike was taken from us far too soon, but his legacy lives on every time a new shooter learns the fundamentals of firearms safety, every time a young athlete steps onto our trap field, and every time members enjoy the facilities he worked so hard to build and maintain.

We invite all members to stop by the High Bore and Trap Field to see the Michael P. Hebert Memorial Fields sign and take a moment to remember a remarkable man whose dedication to the Tewksbury Rod & Gun Club will never be forgotten.

Thank you, Mike. Your service, friendship, and legacy will continue to inspire generations of shooters to come.

CMP – Match Clinic

New Bylaw Changes

April 8, 2026

 The following Bylaw changes were approved at the April 7 regular meeting.

Article V, Section 6: Senior rate set at $35 and age changed to 65.  Grandfathering of anyone already at 62. – Approved
Article V, Section 3: Regular member rate changed to $135 and $75 for 10 hours of service. – Approved
Article IV, Section 9: Categorized spending as general and capital.  $5,000 limit requiring a vote by the membership. – Approved
Article IV, Section 7: Removed restriction on spending more than $500 per month for club expenses. – Approved
